Why do you do what you do?

My name is Aram Namavar, and I just turned 18 years old last week. I am a first year freshman at UCLA, an athlete, and a son. These three things encompass who I am as an individual and young man. Playing sports such as basketball and soccer all my life and studying hard have been two major aspects in my life while growing up. I absolutely love playing and watching basketball, specifically UCLA and the Los Angeles Lakers. This past year I realized that I want to make a career out of my love for basketball, motivation, and constant studying. After I graduate from UCLA, I hope to attend a Medical School in Southern California - hopefully, UCLA, UC Riverside, or UC Irvine. After Medical School, Residency, and possibly Fellowship I hope to be the Team Orthopedist for the Lakers organization or UCLA Athletics. This career would be something I would enjoy doing very much because I love both working with athletes and medicine. Once I achieve my long-term goal, I will be able to open up my own practice while being on staff for either the Lakers or the athletic program here at UCLA. I know that this is the field of medicine after much deliberation and I have already begun to take the necessary steps in order to make this dream a reality. Currently, I help out with the Equipment and Laundry rooms here in the Acosta Center to get my foot in the door of athletics. I absolutely love having this position in athletics because I have a lot of access to players, coaches, and staff. After this year working with the Equipment staff I am going to be in the Sports Medicine department working with the players firsthand and having even more access. These positions not only give me access but lot's of experience and will look very good when applying to Medical School. I have high dreams and I know I will someday achieve these dreams because I want to make the world realize my full potential. Many times in my life I have been told "no" or I "could not do it" and that "UCLA is a dream school" and I have proved the doubters wrong every time. The world will soon witness!
