Jerry Rice, Jr.Art and ArchitectureOctober 16, 2009I do what I do"I can't think of another player who more exemplifies the drive, work habits, and commitment it takes to reach the top” (Mike Holmgren). The quote describes the character that my father proud to the football field every single day. He became known as G.O.A.T or greatest of all time. Although he has many nicknames, my father would be remembered as the greatest wide receiver to very play the game. For those who mistake me as “Jerry Rice’s son”, I am Jerry Rice Jr, the son of a legendary football star Jerry Rice who is trying to make his own way and create his own impact upon the world. New to the college life, a UCLA freshman, I am trying to fit in and my way. From what I am told, I am pretty modest but confident, competitive, and hard working. Even though I am a dedicated student, football gives me an outlet to the problems I have. During the action I never have to think about any problems, stress, or difficulties that I may have. It is something for me to focus and get better at, thus creating something that I can benefit off of. Also, the sport is a consistent thing that I can get better at. Which is a life lesson that could be vital to my success in life. If I don’t make the NFL and I am still satisfied then I would call my journey with the sport a successful one. The most important thing is my own decision and no one else’s. So if I decide to not pursue on any athletic activities as a profession, I would find a career in the math and science department, and be ok with it. But whatever I am going to do, I am going to be great someday, whether athletics or academics. I am going create my own impact and finally come out of my dad’s shadow.
