Why I Do What I Do

My half-filled glass of water can always comfort me. My mind implodes with thoughts of the past, of who I am, and of who I’ll become. This cacophony of uncertainty gives me strength to pursue my dreams and make a difference. As a kid, I remember always having to share my birthdays with my brother, both born in January, a two for one. Year after year, we used to make our home-made piñatas and bake our birthday cake with my mom. Although nothing came easy for us, I consider my childhood the best any kid could ask for. This love and cooperation my family taught me has inspired me to work hard and help others whenever an opportunity arises. My name is Luixsana Gonzalez, and I’m a student, a musician, an artist, a daughter, a sister, a pet owner, a best friend, a girlfriend, a leader, a volunteer, a listener, an achiever, a nerd, a comic. I’m me—with my imperfections and my quirky personality.I see my parents today, and I appreciate everything they have done and still do for my family. They both came to America, dreaming of the possibilities that lay ahead of them. I’ve seen their failures and accomplishments in action. I can accept my failures; I can earn my accomplishments.Challenges make my world worth living. If everything came easy, I wouldn’t see a point to life. I feed off of challenges and persevere to reach for the best. My life isn’t perfect or planned, but I know that whatever comes my way, I will be ready to conquer.
