Every day I walk down the long, maze-like hallway. There are many doors and lockers. Early in the morning, these hallways are pretty dark, with only a few lights on. I can hear the sound of a single violin, and a flute. The sounds of the two together mix, yet they are still independently audible. But as the day gets later and people begin to come into the building, more and different sounds can be heard. The sound of pianos, trumpets, and cellos, among other instruments, can be heard. And every now and then, a locker is opened and then slammed shut, as students run off to class and rehearsals. That is what a typical day in the basement of Schoenberg Music Building might be like. A typical day that I experience. Being a music major might seem cool to students of other majors. But most of those students also do not understand why I am a music major. Most students think of the stereotypical music major as not being that intelligent, partying all day and night, “jamming” on their instrument. However, I do not fall into those stereotypes, which is why, unlike most of my music classmates, I decided to double major. But back to the reason why I am also a music major.I decided to major in music because it is what I like to do. Maybe “like” doesn't do it justice. If I just “liked” music, I probably would have switched majors as soon as I came here. No, I think I love music. I love playing-it is a way for me to relax, release my stress. Although I love playing, I think it is because I love playing that I do not want to pursue it as a career. If I had a career based in music, I think I would end up hating it because I would depend on it for everything.
