I am a multiracial, UCLA student, older sister and daughter. I take pride in my family and attribute many of my accomplishments to them because of their support. Because of this, I strive to work hard in school to be a successful individual and contributor to my future family. I do not think I could have done as much as I have without them. They are my biggest fans and always encourage me to try harder and be better. Throughout my childhood my parents were so close to me and they always made me feel like I could tell them anything without being punished or judged. This truly unconditional love has stayed with me all these years. I honestly believe that is the reason for my kindness and patience with other people. My family heritage is so diverse that instead of falling apart and siding with one culture, we have embraced every single part of what makes us who we are. This goes back to my grandparents who went against all the norms when a traditional Japanese woman left Japan to marry an Irish man from the Navy in America. My family has a strong bond and I know that unity is what influences my actions so greatly. I always have them in the back of my head as a constant source of motivation and reason to do my best. I am certain they will always be there for me no matter how old I am or what situation I am in. For that, I know, there’s no place like home.
