I am Mitchel Johnson, a six foot five inch male from Manhattan Beach, California. I was originally born in Tucson, Arizona but only lived there for a short couple years of my childhood. I lived with my grandparents up until I was about ten years old across Southern California, four different households in total. Ever since I can remember I have always been especially competitive in many aspects of my life and sports was no different for me. I have played many sports including; soccer, baseball, basketball, football, track and finally volleyball. While sports took up most of my free time as a child, I never really thought about the doors it could open up in my future while I was growing up.My family background has made me a strong person in many areas of my life. I didn’t have a stable childhood of the classic spoiled only child. Instead, my parents split when I was young and attempted to reconnect several times. This taught me many valuable life lessons dealing with hope, anger, sadness and uncertainty. I have learned many things from my parents/grandparents but I have also seen things to avoid in life as well.I enjoy playing the sport of volleyball because it has been an outlet in my life for so long. It has become an art form in which I can relieve stress, express happiness and exhibit my dedication. The sport makes me happy because I enjoy competing and winning first off and foremost. I love the strategy behind the game and executing a game plan perfectly. The sport also keeps me in shape and around my friends almost all of the time.School was never a primary concern of mine until about second year of high school. I was never a bad student, mostly average with some bright spots but I realized that sports wasn’t everything in life when I quit basketball after making the varsity squad to start playing an entirely foreign sport, volleyball. I had grown tired of the same routine after seven years of basketball and decided to try another sport. Little did I know that I would be able to excel at such a level that I could attend a division I volleyball school and get a scholarship to play on the team. My passion for success allowed me to develop into the athlete I am today and I have no doubt that with hard work I will be successful throughout my life.
