Just to get this going, I'm an avid youtuber and always love it when my friends forward me interesting videos. Julia has shown us a couple of interesting videos in the class and we can all share some that are related to what we are learning in the class.

First off, I want to show you guys a video on a piano battle, performed by world renowned taiwan-based singer, Jay Chou. I'm sure some international students have heard of him before. He is recently starred in the movie The Green Hornet (he was the nerdy asian dude, Kato)

Something about this piano battle: basically one guy starts playing a piece and the other will have to follow by ear and if possible, improvise. This video is from the movie "secret" starring Jay Chou as the lead actor. There are no subtitles but you don't need to understand mandarin to enjoy this battle. NOTE:  Jay chou and his opponent are REALLY playing the piano and they were not played by another professional and then edited to seem like they are the ones playing it. There is a live version of this segment done in a concert for proof!

There's a song by chopin played in the battle! Look out for it!

  • My friend who's a tap dancer showed me this youtube video a long time ago. After we had the tap dancers in class, I just felt like rewatching this video. What makes this video cool to me is that I never thought tap dancing could be combined with pop songs so this video gives tap dancing a modern twist! Enjoy

  • This is my favorite cover ever, I love the energy and how the song sounds so good without all the editing and work that goes into most songs. There is so much fun in this video, and i really think that is what makes art appealing, especially to our generation. All of the ruggedness and impurities are what makes this song for me. I get shivers ever time! Enjoy!

  • Here is a video by Drunken Tiger that I found on YouTube. He is a critically acclaimed Korean hip hop group which has since released eight albums. At the age of 12, JK moved to LA with his family. While living in LA, Tiger JK witnessed the tension between Korean Americans and African Americans during the L.A riots. JK already an avid follower of hip hop was inspired to bridge the gap between the two ethnic cultures using his rhymes.

This Song's title is 'My Time.' I am his fan and his song is really good for me!! Listen to this song. ^^

  • So I apologize if everyone has already seen this video...  This video is a unique twist to a popular song.  It reminds me of the tap dancers from lecture.  I think it's a form of art because it creates rhythm and interesting to watch and should be enjoyed by an audience.  So, enjoy!

  • Here's a music video by LCD Soundsystem for a song called All My Friends.  I feel like the message of the song/video really resonate with a lot of the topics covered in class, specifically addressing the issue of how to live/die.  What I get from this song is someone thinking about the way they lived their life, the decisions they made, and reflecting on it all.  He even point blank says "I wouldn't change a stupid decision for another 5 years of life".  Also, even if you just ignore the lyrics it's still a really good song.  They're great in concert, check em out.

I recently found this video on YouTube which was favorited by another person that I had subscribed to. At first I was a little skeptical about the video since the person I was subscribing to was asking his subscribers to vote for his friend's video since he is participating on this online tournament.(Sorry for the confusion ^) I'm not quite sure what he wins but as I clicked on the website (here http://www.topblip.com/bracket/view_bracket/?season_id=13&match...) he had already made it to the finals so I thought to myself that it has to be worth watching and I am really glad that I did. I was blown away by the first few minutes because he was making up the song all by himself such as playing the piano, guitar, and all the other instruments involved and cutting clips of the music and putting it all together. This truly must have taken a lot of time and the quality of his work shows all of the effort that he had put into it. Anyways I definitely encourages anyone who reads my post to watch this video because it is worth every second! I can honestly say I did not like the original song by Katy Perry at first but I really enjoy the cover by Kevin Lien!
