Would everyone be ok with a 2 year old in our camp?

Richard's friend Kristi is coming to burning man and wants to camp with us. She has a two year old son, Miles and wrote to me:

<< I did want to make sure that the group was okay being joined by a 2 year old – cute and fun and actually amazingly easy (we got lucky with this one). >>

I think it would be fine, but if there is any unease about him being in the mix in our camp, please tell me. You can send me a personal message or email if you want to express any reservations confidentially.

  • Hi everyone -

I sent Kristi an email which described in detail the harsh elements of BM and how easy it is to get dehydrated, constant noise and stimulation etc. which is even more of an issue for little munchkins. I suggested she check out Kidsville which is a camp dedicated to supporting parents who want to bring their kids and that we'd look forward to play-dates if they were to decide to go that route. I also shared how I personally love to experience Burning Man - on a bike with new and old friends, loaded up with an icy Gatorade camelbak, exploring the playa art without a care in the world, which is hard enough to accomplish with the typical adult clusterf%#ks that occurs when a plan so simple as "Let's go to the temple" is put in motion...

On that front: we have found that we can really avoid the pain of the camp clusterf&@k if we plan to launch from somewhere other than the camp - like at the roller rink or center camp - so that people can be completely entertained while it takes someone else 30 minutes to figure out how to secure the perfect bunny tail to their ass-less pants.
    • Mardie, I LOVE your description of playa logistics. So true. I'm leaving my ass-less pants at home this year. I know you will all be happy to hear that.
    • Just to let folks know... this got resolved. Kristi is camping at Kidsville, I believe.
