I teach Organization Communication at UNC-Chapel Hill. I assigned WDYDWYD to my class the same day that UNC-CH student body president Eve Carson was murdered. Her WDYDWYD is on this site. What began as a fun extra credit assignment took on deeper meaning as a result. We did the exercise as part of a discussion on diversity in the work place. The assignment illustrated that diversity is about more than the externals. It is about life experience, passions and dreams as well. Here is how I assigned it Next time, I might spend more time in class looking at other submissions so students can articulate what they like and don't like to prime their own creativity. It was an optional assignment, but 95% of the class did it! Rarely are there assignments that get students so motivated. I strongly encourage every teacher to build this assignment into his or her curriculum. Julia Scatliff O'Grady
