In 2008 I will turn fifty and will have outlived my dance with breast cancer by 6 years and have seen my daughter turn six. Being an artist’s in this country, whether you’re a dancer, writer, composer or visual artist is a chancy proposition. Combine that with a health care crisis and your chance and choice are your best friends or worst enemies. My passion for life and clay especially is visceral and deeply connected. I wake up eager to go to my studio or look forward to see what my students have made and take great delight in many of these moments. Of course mundane daily pleasures are profoundly delightful too. Having morning coffee, snuggling with my daughter in bed and taking the time to write a friend a letter with a fine point pen are all some of the best and easiest moments to be had.
