I read this amazing young adult novel for one of my education courses. The book is called Walk Two Moons (Sharon Creech) and it contains a bunch of wonderful proverbs and figurative language. "The birds of sadness" was one of my favorite proverbs in the novel. It's something easy enough to remember that I find myself saying it when I'm having a particularly rough day. Like most proverbs, it seems cheesy at first. The more I say it to myself, however, the greater its impact seems to be. I love this proverb because it shows that you have control of your own life. Everyone experiences sadness; it's an unavoidable fact of life. But it's up to YOU to make sure that sadness doesn't overwhelm you. I have a tendency to come up with excuses that prevent me from being happy. When I remember this quote, however, I remember that I am the only one who can take away my sadness. This quote helps me to drag myself out of my misery and reminds me that I have to put effort into my happiness.
