This fall, over 500 UCLA students have submitted over 6,517 tweets, 597 essays and 498 images, 8 videos and five audio recordings about who they are, what they do, and why. The text and photographs on display were chosen from these submissions and will be on exhibit from November 2-7, 2009. This wdydwyd? exhibit is presented by UCLALive in conjunction with the Ontroerend Goed production: ONCE AND FOR ALL WE’RE GONNA TELL YOU WHO WE ARE SO SHUT UP AND LISTEN! The “take no prisoners” title and themes of the production encourage the viewer to express an opinion and take a stand. In a city where many feel increasingly marginalized and culturally invisible, UCLAlive used this “call to action” as inspiration to create a year-long series of programs where students, audiences, and community members have an opportunity to reflect on what they think, craft a response, and give voice to that response in a variety of mediums: the written word, video, live performance, and visual art.
