The "wdydwyd?" project got started at Burning Man in 2004. Over 500 burners have been featured answering, "Why do you do what you do?" in Polaroids.
There is a 68-foot exhibit on the surrounding wall of Center Camp this year.
Now we're expanding the project to many other photographers, different styles (incl digital and video), and all-around more collaborative. It's a great way to meet new burners, participate in a big collaborative art project... even if you're not a photographer (you can partner with one).

OUR PLAN — feedback welcomed — post below (but, you'll only get further info if you register)
1) IN ADVANCE, we'll recruit burners in two general groups
— Photographers and Others (non-photogs).
Photographers can either shoot alone, or they can pair with others (a nice way to meet people). And, this project works particularly well for collaborative teams of a photographer + another person or two.
2) REGISTER ON SITE as a "collaborating artist"— any day at 1:00pm — Center Camp — Tuesday thru Friday (we'll be there for at least 30 min, maybe more). Look for the "wdydwyd?" sign (or) banner. Note: You only need to show up once to get started.
a) Get registered — Burning Man requires all cameras to be registered, but instead of going thru MediaMecca, we are deputized to give everyone a tag for "officially" using their camera.
b) Get supplies — sharpies & card-stock sign w/ subj release, tips
c) Pair with a collaborator (optional)
d) Get advice, tips or just friendly chat w/ wdydwyd organizers & meetup with Flickr members & others
3) SHOOT — anytime, anywhere — on your own. Go ask people, "wdydwyd?" and photograph them with their response.
4) PARTY (exact time TBD – check wdydwyd exhibit on Center Camp fence for final specs) — probably THURS 8-10PM
> We'll project images that people have taken Tues-Thurs
> We'll have a pull-up art car with a sound system and great music
5) RETURN RELEASES (anytime day or night)
thru a mail slot in the wdydwyd exhibit on the back fence of Center Camp (which will be clearly marked).
6) AFTER Burning Man (all optional)
> Upload to wdydwyd for weekly blog.
> Possibly be in a wdydwyd book (no specs yet... way in the future)
> Exhibit your images around Center Camp in 2009!
Add your name/email to regestration form. It helps us keep organized and not leave anyone out!
Feel free to recruit others spontaneously & bring them to Center Camp at 1:00pm Tues–Fri.
