memoriam

I thought about why I paint and remembered this time in 2000 when I was teaching a workshop on book art in New Haven after 9/11 and a month after the funeral of Allison Jane Banker,my daughter. She died in October 2000 after two yearsof treatment for Hodkins Disease lymphomat age 19. Painting,drawing,poetry,music,literature and creative arts were our lives.She received top honors from high schoolin those Liberal Arts and encouraged me to continue to write and to paint for her and for myself. I am fortunate that I have this outlet and means of expression as myway of life. When I am sad or depressedit lifts my spirits and brings me closer toAllison and to all the others with souls hereand there. I paint with love and loss, griefand happiness. Since this time I have received so many emails from high schooland college students who saw me as a rolemodel. This painting has words and alsodates.
