Josh Canter: WDYDWYD Personal Essay

There are many things that are me. I am a very loving, caring and sensitive person. I am a person who loves to laugh and to make others laugh. I am Jewish. I have a yearning for learning, as I like to call it, and a passion for discovery and curiosity. I love my family and friends. I am a person who naturally pursues leadership positions and one who is easy to talk to. I love to meet new people and make new friends. I love movies, and I love to sit and watch movies and eat pizza with friends – t… Continue

Switching Paths

It's funny how one person can leave your life and it sets your life in a completely different path. I guess it all depended on where I wanted go in life. I took it hard at first, but looking back, I have grown and learned so much since that person left.

At first, I regretted the mistake I took to lose my good friend, but thinking back on it, it's probably the best thing that ever happened to me. I put my life on a better path and decided to make everything count. I appreciate those around me an… Continue

Essay

My name is Eric Lee, a 5th year student at UCLA. I grew up in Taiwan until I was thirteen and came to the US to study in high school and college. The combination of eastern and western cultural backgrounds helped me to see the advantages in each culture and influence my ideology. I appreciate the hardworking mentality in the eastern culture, yet I enjoy the outspoken and confident western culture. These two backgrounds allow me to adapt the goods from each and help me to grow as an individual.… Continue

Thank you, World

I am glad I am here. I am appreciative that I am here. What could I ask for?

"Because my life will not live without me." I saw this in Tony Deifell's slide show and it just inspired me. I realize how much of a difference I have made in the lives all those I have come in contact with and it really makes me smile. I am more inspiring than I led myself to believe.

I've done so much in my life that I should be very appreciative of and that I should be out celebrating my kindness, caring, support,… Continue

"Why do YOU do what you do?"

This is a good question that requires me to think alittle more than I usually do. Why do I do what I do? Because I think it's right. I learned to fail and I learned to do things for myself.

Years before, I used to think my parents pressured me to do well and they constantly compared me to my relatives. It was mostly them, who were pushing me to be competitive, or they were pushing me to do my best. How can they measure my best when only I know my own limit? The first time I failed, I cried and… Continue

Bicycle

It's hard to say. Why do I get back on my bicycle after falling down and scraping my knee?

People say life is like a roller coaster. I like to say life is like riding a bicycle. You could be so caught up in your enjoyment in riding it that you miss the rocks that stop you in your tracks. You could so cautious that you take away the enjoyment of riding a bike. You could take so many risk that you end up badly hurt. But the funny thing is... no matter what happens on your bicycle, you get back on… Continue
